About Us
North Manchester Family Martial Arts Centres
North Manchester Family Martial Arts Centres provides high-quality martial arts classes across Prestwich, Oldham, Middleton, and Denton. We specialise in age-appropriate martial arts training that helps students build confidence, improve behaviour and develop focus — all in a safe, supportive environment.
Our classes are designed for children from early years through to teens, as well as adults and families. Every lesson combines structured martial arts training with life skills such as respect, self-discipline and emotional control, helping students grow both on and off the mats.
With experienced Instructors, clear progression, and a strong family-friendly ethos, we’re proud to be one of the most trusted martial arts schools in North Manchester. Whether you’re looking for children’s martial arts, confidence-building classes, or a positive after-school activity, we’re here to help your whole family get started.
We have two full time centres based in Prestwich and Oldham, plus two part time centres in Middleton and Denton.
Meet our Team
Chief Instructor - Prestwich
Master B Nelson
Taining since 2006 and a 4th Dan Black Belt, Master Brett is the brains behind our technical syllabus and curriculum. Known for his legendary coffee addiction, love of a solid dad joke, and his “permanently grumpy” teaching face, he’s actually a complete softy when it comes to helping students grow. Don’t be fooled — beneath the sarcasm is a deeply committed Instructor who cares massively about doing martial arts properly.
Chief Instructor - Middleton
Mr N Ogden
Training since 2018, 2nd Dan Instructor Mr Ogden brings creativity, structure, and endless patience to the Middleton centre. With a background in marketing and visual arts, he has a knack for explaining things clearly and keeping children fully engaged — even on tricky days. Calm, approachable, and secretly very competitive when it comes to board games, he’s especially loved by younger students.
Chief Instructor - Oldham
Master H Nelson
Training since 2006, a 4th Dan in Tang Soo Do and a Cho Dan in Shotokan Karate, Master Harris brings intensity, structure, and high standards to every class. Known for running tough, demanding sessions, he’s also the youngest Master in the Family Martial Arts Centres group — and the driving force behind the website you’re probably reading this on. Expect discipline, focus, and zero shortcuts… but incredible results.
Chief Instructor - Denton
Mrs M Kelly
Training since 2019 and a 2nd Dan black belt, Mrs Kelly specialises in children’s classes and finding very creative ways to get kids moving. Known for her unusual exercises (that children somehow love), she combines energy, patience, and structure to keep classes fun, focused, and effective. If a student leaves smiling and tired, Mrs Kelly probably planned the lesson.

Our Tiger martial arts programme for children aged 4 to 6 is specially designed to support early childhood development in a fun, structured, and nurturing environment. These early years classes help young children build confidence, improve listening skills, and develop coordination — all while enjoying active, engaging lessons.
Our Instructor Training Programme helps older students and teens develop confidence, leadership, and real-world skills while continuing their martial arts journey. This programme is ideal for students who show commitment, maturity, and a positive attitude in class.
Our Leadership Programme has been designed to introduce the beginner to the fascinating world of Martial Arts and prepare them for their Black Belt training. While it is never too late to learn, the sooner you begin the learning process the better.
Our children’s martial arts birthday parties offer a fun, high-energy alternative to traditional soft play or party venues. Designed for primary school–age children up to 11, these parties are perfect for parents looking for something different, active, and memorable.
